Recently, Allen Harris, developer of The Springs of Mill Lakes, was interviewed for an in-depth story in The Wall Street Journal about the wants and needs of today’s boomer homebuyers, especially with regard to the newest developments in technology: “Tech-Savvy Seniors Want Latest Design Amenities,” by Joseph Dobrian. Here are some excerpts from the article:
Indoors and Out
The Springs of Mill Lakes, in Opelika, Ala., incorporates the latest technologies both indoors and out, according to Allen Harris. (…)High-tech securing features include cameras at the community’s entrance with resolution high enough to read license plates, and Opelika is the only city in Alabama with its own fiber-optic service and network, (OPS ONE) – plus round-the-clock repair service with a two-hour service window.
“This community will be served by fiber optic secured by the side of the home,” Mr. Harris says. “That is a big plus for this generation, which spends more time online than millennials.”
“You can also have a TV camera at you front door that activates your cell phone when someone approaches. You can operate your garage door from your cell phone. We’ll have USB outlets underneath the upper kitchen cabinets for easy storage of charging phones.”
